SYNCHAUDIO GAINS ALTITUDE AT WHISTLER FILM FESTIVAL

IT’S ALL ABOUT THE MOUNTAINS
When you look at a map of Canada you can easily see why geographically, it is the world’s second largest country. It is a vast land bordered by three oceans. It is extremely diverse in its topography consisting of everything from great inland seas, to tundra and grand prairies that extend to the horizon, to the great mountains of the West. When you head to the western side of Canada you eventually hit those majestic, snow-capped Rocky Mountains and then before descending to the Pacific coast there is another set of mountains guarding the beautiful city of Vancouver sometimes referred to as the “Rio of the North”.  And not too far north from downtown Vancouver is the town of Whistler, home of Whistler-Blackcomb, one of the largest ski resorts in North America.

WHISTLER, BRITISH COLUMBIA
The town of Whistler, which sits at the base of Whistler and Blackcomb mountains, is named after Whistler Mountain. To be precise, the mountain is situated in the Fitzsimmons Range of the Pacific Ranges of the Coast Mountains, and on the northwest side of Garibaldi Provincial Park. It is only 40 km from the Pacific Ocean, and 121 km north of Vancouver. If you like to ski, the Whistler-Blackcomb is one of the world’s great winter destinations.

Flash back to 2010 and there is Whistler and its Olympic Park serving as the site for the alpine and Nordic venues for the Vancouver Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games. Over the years Whistler has become a “cool” village that is now an all-season resort, and culturally home to a great nightlife and various festivals. It is home to the annual World Ski and Snowboard Festival, which is the town’s largest celebration of winter sports, arts, and culture. Another one of its most popular and renowned cultural events is the WHISTLER FILM FESTIVAL.

WHISTLER FILM FESTIVAL AND SUMMIT 2017
The Whistler Film Festival was born in 2001, and from that time it has grown to become an important member of the international film festival circuit. While its root impetus was to celebrate and promote filmmakers from the province of British Columbia, now in its 17th year the festival has evolved to become so much more. While the festival is the primary annual spotlighted event, the Whistler Film Festival Society produces a number of programs throughout the year that support filmmakers and film fans.

This year’s Whistler Film Festival combined both the celebration of film, via its curated programming of independent films, and its industry summit programming. Guest speakers and expert panels shared valuable knowledge and experiences with filmmakers and other industry delegates.

Farinoush Mostaghimi, CEO of SYNCHAUDIO, took part in the summit programming at the Whistler Film Festival. One of the prime summit events titled “They Shoot, We Score: The Director-Composer Creative Process,” focused on music for film and television. Farinoush moderated this panel, which included a host of heavy weight industry executives such as:

They Shoot, We Score: The Director-Composer Creative Process

The host for this program was Leah Primeau. In this panel session composers from British Columbia interacted and engaged with the industry experts, while they had the opportunity to showcase themselves and their music for an actual television project.

Farinoush also joined the same distinguished team of experts for two Music Showcases, and joined other music executives for one-on-one meetings with artists. Artists that performed during the event included: Lazy Ghost, The Katherines, Vince Vaccaro, Chris Buck Band, NinetyFour, Art d’Ecco, I M U R, and Rykka.
