Music Business

Australias Gold Coast is on our mind as we prepare to attend the BIGSOUND Festival and Conference in Brisbane in September. We are excited that SynchAudio will join a prestigious gathering of international speakers and thought leaders to tap the sharp edge of expertise and knowledge and to share with the many artists and business delegates attending the conference.

SYNCHAUDIO is proud to be a sponsor of BIGSOUND 2017 which, launched in 2002, is celebrating its 16th year as Australia’s leading music event. It attracts over 1,300 delegates and 6,000 music fans. The festival and conference takes place this year from September 5 – 8 in Fortitude Valley (known locally as “the Valley”), Australia’s only designated entertainment district and home of some of the country’s most outstanding concert venues. More than a music festival, BIGSOUND also includes the business of music with its conference that draws industry leaders from not only Australia but internationally.

Complementing the “music as the glue” philosophy BIGSOUND also presents Visual Arts Festival and Music Tech Showcase. QMusic, the event producers, predict that by 2020 BIGSOUND will attract 2,500 conference attendees and an additional 10,000 members of the public.

Mary Ramos is one of the most influential and experienced music supervisors in the motion picture business. She will be speaking on: Friday, September 8th in the Performance Space – JWC Level 2. ZAN ROWE of triple j will present Mary Ramos “in conversation”. BIGSOUND delegates will not want to miss this session with Mary as she takes the audience on a journey inside her creative space to shed light on how she works as a music supervisor, how she navigates working with directors and composers and to share her insights on the role music plays in enhancing the director’s vision for storytelling on screen.

Mary Ramos is an award winning music supervisor who has been working her craft of curating and creating music for screen based media for over twenty years. Among over a hundred movies, television shows and advertising commercials, she is especially renowned for her close collaboration with film director Quentin Tarantino having worked on all eight of his films including Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown, Inglourious Basterds, Django Unchained, Kill Bill Vol. 1 and Kill Bill Vol. 2 and most currently The Hateful Eight. In 2015 she was also acclaimed for her work with director Tom McCarthy (Director) and Howard Shore (Composer) on the Academy Award winning film Spotlight.

Noush will take her knowledge and experience to the BIGSOUND event titled HOOK-UPS: MARKETING & SYNCH. This event will take place in the IMA Courtyard, on Wednesday, September 6th at 3:00PM – 3:45PM. “This session explores the opportunities available in synch and how that plays a part in the larger promotion of your act.” Noush will be joined by Rev. Moose, Co-founder of US based, music marketing firm, Marauder.

Noush comments: “Over the last three years we have made it our mission to take SynchAudio to the world, to strategically introduce ourselves to the global music community and to partner with some of the biggest international music business conferences. Currently we are on course having participated in strategic alliances, as event sponsors and partnerships in numerous music business conferences in France, Germany, Spain, UK, Sweden, Canada, the Caribbean and the US. Now we are excited to add BIGSOUND Australia to our list of prestigious international conferences.”

While business is the primary goal, the opportunity to see the world through a variety of cultural lenses, geography and of course music is one of the great rewards. We are looking forward to exploring the Gold Coast, Queensland and Brisbane as a wonderful perk of our attending BIGSOUND 2017.
